The 2022 Sundance Film Festival arguably was among the best years for recent breakout filmmakers. Several new filmmakers jumped out as promising voices: Cooper Raiff with “Cha Cha Smooth,Nikyatu Jusu with “Nanny,” and Julian Higgins with “God’s Country.” But arguably, the film that popped the most, perhaps because of its second life on Netflix and streaming services, was John Patton Ford’s “Emily The Criminal” starring Aubrey Plaza. Thankfully, Ford is back with a new drama, this time for A24 called “Huntington,” and oh, what a cast it has.

A24 and StudioCanal revealed today that writer/director John Patton Ford’s “Huntington” (a working title for now) will feature four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris (“Love Lies Bleeding,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Pollock,” “Apollo 13”), two-time Emmy nominee Margaret Qualley (“Poor Things,” “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” “Maid,” “Fosse Verdon”) and Glen Powell (“Anyone But You,” “Twisters,” “Hit Man,” “Top Gun: Maverick”).

“Huntington” is described as a raucously entertaining revenge thriller about Becket Redfellow (Glen Powell), the heir to a multi-billion-dollar fortune who will stop at nothing to get what he deserves… Or what he thinks he deserves.

STUDIOCANAL is fully financing the film. CEO Anna Marsh, with Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin, commented, “We are thrilled to be working closely again with our friends at A24 and Blueprint in bringing this incredibly special project to life. John has assembled a dream array of on-screen talent in the extraordinary Glen Powell, Margaret Qualley and Ed Harris, with others to be announced very soon. We can’t wait to begin filming and to share this wildly entertaining thriller with audiences around the world next year!”

The aforementioned “Emily The Criminal” was a compelling crime drama and thriller about a down-on-her-luck 30-something saddled with debt who gets involved in a credit card scam that pulls her into the criminal underworld of Los Angeles, ultimately leading to deadly consequences.

With Ford directing, Qualley, Harris, and Powell are a super enticing combination of elements, so we cannot wait for this one. With filming beginning soon, file this one under Most Anticipated 2025, and one might be it could turn up at Sundance or any other number of prestigious festivals.
