Yes, “Presumed Innocent” was a late 1980 legal thriller directed by Alan J. Pakula, and starring Harrison Ford, and well, everything is due for a remake of some kind these days, right? Enter “Presumed Innocent,” based on the same source material, the limited series from TV super producer David. E Kelly (“Big Little Lies,” among dozens of other huge TV hits spanning multiple decades) and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot company starring Jake Gyllenhaal, making one of his first TV starring roles. Gyllenhaal is also an executive producer on the series, which is definitely one of the most anticipated series of the year.

Today, Apple TV+ debuted the teaser trailer for “Presumed Innocent,” which will run for eight episodes starting in June. The starry ensemble cast also includes Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, O-T Fagbenle, Chase Infiniti, Elizabeth Marvel, Nana Mensah, Renate Reinsve, Peter Sarsgaard, and Kingston Rumi Southwick. “Presumed Innocent” will make its global debut on Apple TV+, premiering the first two episodes on Wednesday, June 12, followed by a new episode every Wednesday through July 24.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Based on The New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Scott Turow, the gripping series takes viewers on a journey through the horrific murder that upends the Chicago Prosecuting Attorney’s office when chief deputy prosecutor Rusty Sabich (played by Gyllenhaal) is suspected of the crime. The series explores obsession, sex, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together.
David E. Kelley is a multi-Emmy Award-winner known for writing, producing, and or creating dozens of famous shows like “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” “Chicago Hope,” “The Practice” and its spin-off “Boston Legal,” “Ally McBeal,” and many more. While Kelly never went away, he certainly had a huge resurgence in the era of Peak TV that started with “Big Little Lies.” Since then, he’s created, written, and produced a lot of streaming hits with Nicole Kidman, like “Nine Perfect Strangers,” “The Undoing,” and “Love & Death” starring Elizabeth Olsen. “Presumed Innocent” will be his second series of 2024, as the mini-series “A Man in Full” premieres tomorrow on Netflix.
“Presumed Innocent” hails from Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Bad Robot is under an overall deal. Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich executive produce for Bad Robot. Kelley serves as showrunner and executive produces through David E. Kelley Productions alongside Matthew Tinker. Dustin Thomason, Sharr White, and Gyllenhaal also serve as executive producers. Turow and Miki Johnson serve as co-executive producers.
Anne Sewitsky serves as executive producer and directs the first two episodes and episode eight, and Emmy Award-winner Greg Yaitanes executive produces and directs episodes three through seven.
