Microsoft's Share of Browser Market Continues to Rise: Now More Than 87 Percent

WebSideStory, Inc. As of Feb. 21, 2001, the worldwide usage share of Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) Internet Explorer was 87.71 percent, up from only 86.08 percent on June 18, 2000, according to WebSideStory’s StatMarket (www.statmarket.com), the recognized authority on global Internet user trends. Netscape’s global usage share, meanwhile, was 12.01 percent on Feb. 21, down from 13.90 percent in June. Usage share is the percentage of people worldwide that are using a particular browser.

Since Feb. 8, 1999, Microsoft’s browser usage share has soared from 64.60 percent, while Netscape’s share has dropped from 33.43 percent. Most of that shift in market share occurred in 1999 and early 2000.
