Can't restore my Call History from Google Drive Backup

In late Feb my Redmi Note 9T 5G (4GB 128GB) failed (stuck on boot screen or FastBoot if I pressed and held volume and power button).  The last google backup was on 21 Feb 2024.  A couple days later I got a Redmi Note Pro (4GB 128GB) and set it up from a factory reset to restore from the Redmi Note 9T's last backup.  It got an error "Couldn't Finish Restoring the Backup" when restoring.  I did a couple more factory resets and restores but kept getting the same error.  I examined the phone and saw that only my SMS messages and Call history was missing.

From the 23 Feb until 16 Mar, I used the Redmi Note Pro as normal hoping to resurrect the Redmi Note 9T. I spent until mid March trying to get the 9T working by completely discharging and trying button press combinations with the aim to use SMS Backup and restore to recover my SMS and Call history.  I gave up on the 9T and factory reset a Huawei Y5 and tried to restore just the SMS and Call history from the 9T's backup but got the same error "Couldn't Finish Restoring the Backup".  I found an article: From <https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/wbt70g/couldnt_finish_restoring_the_backup_all/>

Ran into this issue and Google support was clueless - the cause of the problem is a security setting.

Simply go here:  https://admin.google.com/ac/devices/settings/general

and in the lower block labeled "Password Requirements" you need to set "Require users to set a password" to "Off"

After turning it off, resetting the Y5 and restoring SMS & Call history from the 9T’s backup, I had some success.  I recovered 8 thousand + messages but no calls were restored.  I used SMS Backup and restore to get the recovered messages from the Y5 to the Pro.  I tried a few more times resetting the Y5 and restoring the Call Log but calls remained empty.  There is no error message and the 9T’s backup says that it has 1.4MB of Call history backed up.

Is there some other setting in the admin console that is stopping the call log from restoring.  Also, if I open Drive on my phone and tap the menu, there is no Backups in the menu options when logged into my Workspace account but there is one in my personal gmail account.  How do you get the backup option to show on workspace accounts on the phone Drive app?  I don’t have advanced mobile management turned on.  Is there anyway to recover my call history or export the Google Drive Backup to another platform or format that I could possible extract it?

Hi,

I seem to have the same problem. Apparently Google drive backups are not so much restore friendly. Don't seem to be able to find the restore button anywhere. You were lucky to have been able to restore your messages!
I'm not really sure where the problem lies but why are we not able to restore the previous call history and messages when we are just using our phone.
Do we have to reset it all and start from the beginning to be able to have all our messages and call history?
Isn't there any other way to do it?
Thanks anyway
