Using Gmail to access other Gmail accounts after the end of Less Secure Apps

Hello,

It's great that Google is ending the Less Secure Apps in favor of more secure methods, particularly OAuth.  Unfortunately, the Gmail feature within the Settings -> Accounts to allow Check mail from other accounts: and Send mail as: both require use of App Passwords.  Since App Passwords are a form of basic authentication, it would be great if a feature is added to GMail that would allow adding additional accounts using OAuth.

In the meantime, are App Passwords being discontinued or can a special exemption be made to allow continued use of App Passwords?
