Northbound I-55 near Litchfield reopened after crash involving hazardous materials

All lanes were reopened as of 6:05 p.m., Illinois State Police said.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ill. — A crash involving hazardous materials shut down Interstate 55 in Illinois for nearly 10 hours on Saturday.

According to Illinois State Police, Troop 8 responded to a crash involving a commercial vehicle around 8:30 a.m. Saturday on I-55 at milepost 52 near Litchfield.

The commercial vehicle was carrying hazardous materials, according to ISP.

I-55 was closed for nearly 10 hours on Saturday with drivers taking alternate routes. All lanes were reopened as of 6:05 p.m., ISP said.

No further information was released regarding the incident.
