Hibernate your LinkedIn account

Last updated: 1 month ago
Hibernate your account as an alternative to closing it. You can reactivate your account 24 hours after you’ve hibernated it.
Here’s how your account will appear to others when you enable hibernation:
  • Profile Visibility: Your profile won’t be visible to anyone, even your connections while your account is hibernated.
  • Recommendations and Endorsements: Recommendations and endorsements you’ve given others will remain, but identified as “A LinkedIn member” until you’re back online.
  • Messages: Messages you’ve participated in or exchanged will remain but you’ll only be identified as “A LinkedIn member”.
  • Searches: While your account is hibernated, your LinkedIn profile won’t appear in searches on the platform. This includes searches on other LinkedIn products like Recruiter.
  • Posts and comments: Your posts and comments will remain intact, but you’ll only be identified as “A LinkedIn member”. If you have a profile photo, it will be replaced by a generic icon.
Turn on Hibernation

You can click here to hibernate your account or follow these steps:

  1. Click your profile photo at the top of your LinkedIn homepage and select Settings & Privacy.
  2. Select Hibernate account under Account management.
  3. Select the option that describes why you’re hibernating your account.
  4. Enter your password and click Hibernate account to complete the hibernation process.

Completing additional actions to hibernate your account:

  • In some instances, you may need to complete specific actions before hibernating your account. These actions could include paying balances, reassigning group admin roles, or deactivating a LinkedIn Learning license.
  • Once you have completed these actions, click the Refresh button to ensure they have been removed from the list.
  • If no other tasks are listed, you can proceed to click Hibernate. If you are still experiencing difficulties, you can click the Contact Support button to open a ticket.

What happens to your associated subscriptions and licenses

  • Premium subscription - If you have an active Premium subscription plan, your subscription will be automatically cancelled immediately when you hibernate your account. Any promotional pricing you previously had may no longer be honored. If you purchased your Premium subscription via Apple, hibernating your account will automatically cancel your subscription with LinkedIn. However, you’ll have to cancel the subscription directly with Apple to complete the cancellation and prevent future billing.
  • LinkedIn Sales Solutions (LSS) and LinkedIn Talent Solutions (LTS) licenses - Your licenses will stay active when you reactivate your account, unless an admin revokes access. We encourage you to inform your organization’s LSS and LTS admins about your account hibernation so that they can take appropriate action on your licenses.

Note: To reactivate your account and end hibernation, log in with your credentials 24 hours after you hibernated the account.
