General Summary
Under direction of the Career Center Supervisor, serves as the first initial contact for Michigan Works clients, welcoming them upon arrival, handling phone inquiries, and responding to online chats. Provides information about Michigan Works services and guides clients to the appropriate resources.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Welcomes Michigan Works customers with a friendly greeting upon their arrival at the Service Center and guides them to the appropriate service area.
Completes customer check-in sheet for all job seekers visiting the Service Center.
Addresses basic inquiries about Michigan Works services from customers and refers them to the appropriate staff member for further assistance.
Handles phone calls and website chat inquiries in a courteous manner, providing requested information or directing customers to the appropriate staff member for assistance.
Serves as receptionist to other staff within the center.
Notifies staff of customer arrivals for appointments, route phone calls to the correct staff member, and assist with typing correspondence, reports, and public notices as needed.
Maintains a professional presence at the front desk throughout regular business hours.
Performs other routine office tasks such as filing, disseminate incoming mail, and other duties as required.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test (GED)
- One (1) year of experience working in a customer service environment including greeting customers and answering phones
- Associate’s degree or at least 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field
- One (1) year of experience working within a workforce development/public service environment
- Two (2) years of experience working in a customer service environment including greeting customers and answering phones
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
