Summary: Though a Mechanical Engineer by education, he has been mostly working in the field of education reform for more than 27 years. In 1988, just after he finished his engineering studies he founded SECMOL (Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh) which aims to bring reforms in the government school system in Ladakh. In 1994 he was instrumental in the launch of Operation New Hope, a triangular collaboration of the government, village communities and the civil society to bring reforms in the government schools system. The programme involved formation of Village Education Committees to take ownership of state schools, training of teachers in child friendly ways and re-writing and publishing localised text books for Ladakh. As a result the pass percentage at 10th grade (matriculation) rose from the dismal 5% to 55% in seven years and 75% these days. For students who still failed in their state exams he founded the SECMOL Alternative School Campus near Leh, a special school where the admission criteria is failure in exams and not grades. However with the supportive and creative environment at the school, the so called failures have excelled in their chosen fields and risen to international acclaim as entrepreneurs, film makers, politicians, teachers and so on. As an engineer Sonam Wangchuk has been teaching innovation at the SECMOL Alternative School, where together with the students he designed and built solar heated buildings that are low cost, made of earth/mud but maintain +15 C even when the outside temperature is – 15 C in Ladakhi winters. In order to solve the water crisis facing mountain regions due to climate change and fast melting glaciers he invented the Ice Stupa artificial glacier which stores the wasting stream waters in winter in the form of giant ice cones or stupas and releases the water in late spring as they melt... just when farmers need water. Sonam Wangchuk is granted several awards and titles, such as: - 1) Ramon Magsaysay Award 2018 2) The GQ Men of The Year, Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 in India 3) The Rolex Award for Enterprise 2016 in Hollywood USA 4) The Terra Award 2016 for World’s best Earth Buildings, Lyon France 4) The UNESCO Chair for Earth Architecture for India in 2014 5) ‘Real Heroes’ Award, CNN IBN Channel in 2008 6) ‘Green Teacher’ Award by Sanctuary Asia Magazine in 2005 7) Ashoka Fellowship by Ashoka: Innovators for the Public in 2002 8) ‘Man, of the Year’ by The Week magazine in India in 2001 9) Governors Medal by the J&K State Government in 1996

Summary: Richard J. Geruson’s experience spans CEO roles at Lexmark, Phoenix Technologies, and VoiceSignal; and executive positions at Nokia, IBM, Toshiba, and McKinsey & Co. He is currently CEO and Chairman of GBSI which provides global Board services and investments to public and private companies across 3 continents. Previously, as CEO of Lexmark, the multi-billion dollar Fortune-500 IBM spinoff with over 10,000 employees, he grew Sales faster than any time in the previous 10 years. Simultaneously he executed deep process reengineering, transforming this imaging technology business from negative EBITDA and high debt to a positive $303M EBITDA and healthy debt levels. Prior to Lexmark, as CEO of Phoenix, Mr. Geruson achieved consistently high EBITDA ranging from 20% to 25% year-over-year for 6 years straight in the company’s business of firmware and software for Notebooks, Tablets, PCs and IoT (Internet of Things) devices. Before Phoenix, as CEO of VoiceSignal, Mr. Geruson pioneered AI Voice Recognition and Voice Generation software for mobile phones. He increased shareholder value over 10-fold, culminating in the sale of the company for 12 times its Revenue. Previous to VoiceSignal, as SVP at Nokia, Mr. Geruson grew Nokia's Americas business almost 10-fold to $6.5 billion, propelling the mobile phone business from 5th place market share to 1st place in the U.S., and 1st place in the world for the first time in its history. As a result the stock price catapulted to more than a 7-fold increase in less than 3 years. As one of the youngest VP/GMs in IBM’s history, Mr. Geruson transformed IBM’s Networking business worldwide by transitioning it from exclusively Direct Sales to Indirect Channel Distribution, thereby expanding sales by almost 50%. As VP at Toshiba, Mr. Geruson realigned product design and reprioritized engineering activities to reflect U.S. market requirements, doubling market share from 11% to 22%, and spurring the notebook computer business from 5th place to the #1 share position. Mr. Geruson completed 3 degrees from the University of Oxford, including a Doctorate in Economics. He was appointed to the Harvard University Faculty and attended Harvard Business School in the Individual Studies Program where he wrote the book, "A Theory of Market Strategy" (Oxford University Press, 1992), listed on university syllabi and used globally in business school curricula. In addition to his Board work, Mr. Geruson is currently writing a book on Emergence and conducting a research project on AI Ethics and Corporate Governance at Harvard University.
