SPRINGFIELD — Mercy Medical Center in Springfield and Holyoke Medical Center were among nine Massachusetts hospitals that participated in an 18-month, state-funded program aimed at improving opioid disorder care in emergency departments.

Between spring 2019 and fall 2020, the nine hospitals used funding from the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission in efforts to both decrease readmissions and provide easier access to community-based treatment. Many hospitals have continued to both build on and maintain what was implemented to better support patient recovery, according to the initiative’s final report.
