The biggest findings in the Google Search leak

A set of 2,500 internal documents, including some related to search, call into question past statements made by the company.

Google Search is not serving.

A notification from Google acknowledges “an ongoing issue with serving some features in Google Search” without specifying which ones. Presumably, they’re not linked to AI Overviews, which appear to be here to stay.

Google later confirmed this reflected reports of blank results in Google News and Discover earlier, but now it’s all working again.

Update: Google now says the problem is resolved.

Currys is Microsoft’s new Surface repair partner in the UK.

If you’ve purchased a Surface laptop or tablet in the UK you can now get it repaired at electricals retailer Currys. It doesn’t matter where you purchased your device from, Currys will handle repairs at its 300 stores across the UK. It’s a lot more convenient than having to send your device back to Microsoft, that’s for sure.

The ultimate laptop flex.

GPD looks like it has created one of the most interesting dual-screen laptops we’ve seen to date. The secondary display sits on top or folds over the regular one to then close flat into a tablet. It looks impressive in the GIF below, but the key will be weight and balance. We’re expecting to hear more about the GPU Duo at Computex next week.

Allison was right.

I’ve been intrigued by Rabbit’s so-called “large action model” that trains an AI assistant to use your favorite apps on your behalf. That didn’t quite work out with the Rabbit R1, but now Apple’s taking a crack with Siri according to Mark Gurman’s latest scoop.

The new system will allow Siri to take command of all the features within apps for the first time [...] using AI to analyze what people are doing on their devices and automatically enable Siri-controlled features. It will be limited to Apple’s own apps at the beginning, with the company planning to support hundreds of different commands.

So, I guess my colleague Allison Johnson was right, the future of AI gadgets is just phones.

Acer brings the dual hertz with a 32-inch 4K OLED monitor.

Like a certain Asus monitor we saw at CES and an LG before that, the new Acer Predator X32 X3 has a dual-mode panel that can do 480Hz at 1080p, or 240Hz at 4K. Typical brightness is just 275 nits, but it can peak at 1,000 — and it offers built-in KVM with 90W of USB-C PD charging, all for $1,200.

The Acer Predator X32 X3, coming Q4. There’s also an X34 X5 that’s a 34-inch curved OLED at 1440p240, and a X27U F3 that’s 26.5-inch OLED at 1440p480.The Acer Predator X32 X3, coming Q4. The gaming news isn’t over quite yet.

Sure, Sony just wrapped up a jam-packed State of Play livestream. But before you have time to catch your breath, it’s time for a Silent Hill Transmission. It kicks off at 4PM PT / 7PM ET and will feature news on upcoming games, the Return to Silent Hill movie, and more.

God of War Ragnarök on PC requires a PSN account.

Here we go again. Sony just announced Ragnarök for PC, but in a video and accompanying blog post it says the game will require a PlayStation Network account. It’s not clear why, and comes weeks after Sony had to back down and reverse plans for a PSN requirement for Helldivers 2 after blistering player reaction.

Hey Overwatch, can I copy your homework?

NetEase Games debuted a new trailer for Marvel Rivals during Sony’s State of Play. And while I know nobody can claim sole ownership over a 5v5 hero shooter, it’s getting really hard to ignore the Overwatch-ness of it all when all of the trailer’s action takes place in a techno-futuristic Japanese temple festooned with cherry blossoms. Maybe things will look different during the closed beta coming this July.

The stolen Playdate consoles? They fell off a truck *again* — and right back into Playdate’s hands.

How? Where? Did Playdate get all of them back? I just asked the company, and I’ll let you know what we hear.

Being a teenager without a smartphone isn’t that bad, actually.

There are some disheartening drawbacks like getting teased at school and being left out of group chats. But these teens were quick to point out some benefits of being smartphone-free, like having more time to spend with family or to read lots of books. As 17-year-old Greta put it: “I think I’m better adjusted.”
