Expand on Click
-
In the last few days, I have noticed that the ‘expand on click’ feature is no longer working on any of my posts where is has been enabled. I still see the ‘magnifying glass’ when my cursor is over such an image, but it no longer does anything when I click.
Does anyone else have the same issue, and have you found any explanation for it?
A good example is the images in this post: https://justafewrecipes.wordpress.com/2023/11/19/kielbasa-wiejska/

I’m having the same problems. It’s very annoying when I have put some small thumbnails in my post.

@clivesharrison @johnhallett773 thanks for reaching out!
It looks like this might be a bug in a few specific themes and we have an open issue in GitHub tracking this problem. While I can’t provide a specific timeline for the fix, rest assured that it’s a known concern and is being looked into.
If others encounter the same issue and come across this thread, there’s no need to submit additional reports as we’ve already confirmed the problem.
Hope this information is helpful!

same issue for me. incredibly problematic for a portfolio site that’s a crucial part of job hunting!

Hi @weirdhistoryfacts1 and @alexiskargl
Apologies for the inconvenience this may be causing. The issue has been reported to our developers. They will be investigating this as soon as possible.
-
Before seeing this yesterday I talked to one of your engineers who told me to reach out to my theme developer. But the thing is, it was working perfectly fine for a while, and then about 2-3 days ago stopped working. So I don’t think my template was the issue.
Problem is I started going through all my post to ‘clean them up’ and change the images to “expand on click” because it was a great option to have smaller images on the post that could be expanded. I have probably changed some 30-50 posts by now and now I don’t know what to do with the rest (about 225 or so) of if I am going to have to change back what I have already done.
I am on a business plan. Which I don’t think it matters much as it seems to be a wide issue.
Anyway, I appreciate this is out of your hands and the issue has been reported and is being worked on. Please keep us updated on it and any estimated dates that could be fixed.
Thanks!

Personally, I really thank you, alishajaved185. But I’m afraid that doesn’t help most people, unfortunately.

Staff – probably not a good idea not request any additional reports. With thousands of WordPress themes available, it doesn’t seem reasonable to assume or state that only a “few” are affected.

10 days have passed and still no resolution. You would think that this would be a little higher on the priority list.
-
@johnhallett773 it’s Christmas and New Year and a lot of people are not available. It’s also not that easy to find the cause of this problem: does it occure on every browser and what version of browser, on which system does this problem occure, … it’s not a critical error: sites don’t crash or disappear, it’s just a minor functionality loss.
-
This doesn’t need fault-finding from first principles; just go back to when it was working, see what was changed, and then revert. All changes will be logged and so it won’t be too difficult. The trick is to actually start looking.

Hello,
I have the same problem here: https://photopask.wordpress.com/2023/12/30/2023-11-thailand/
My theme is Baskerville 2.I hope to see a resolution after the holiday period. Thank you!
-
Hi Photopask, that’s a good call, perhaps if we all start identifying the themes we have problems with, it may prompt a speedier resolution.
I am using Twenty Eleven.

Hey all, I’m having the same problem on my site. I found that if I disable the Gutenberg plugin, then image expansion works as expected.
Of course, disabling the Gutenberg plugin resulted in some other undesirable behavior for me, but it’s a reasonable workaround until they fix the underlying issue.

Could you link me to your site, please? Just to check how much has it affected the layout.
My entire site is built with blocks, which personally I love and find super useful. So I have no idea how much that is going to mess my site up. I guess I could try a staging site and see if that works

2023: Our Year In Review
The only problem I’ve found (so far) is some undesirable styling changes around block quotes. There are surely other issues I haven’t encountered yet.

Thank you!
I love your site. The images are amazing.
I am checking posts at random and they seemed to work as you said.
I think I will try that and see what happens with my site.
Thanks again!
