A long time ago, Nana (dad’s mom) asked me, in a whisper, if I suspected Grandma (my mom) was going through “The Change,” and I laughed so hard that she couldn’t bring herself to say menopause. I let her know that, no, Grandma had a hysterectomy, so she went through menopause a long time ago; she was just mean.
