Are we Sowing Seeds that Can’t Bear Fruit?

Is our spiritual ignorance the culprit?

The God of unconditional love of Jesus is a very appealing figure. But what of the heartaches and obstacles seemingly jumping in front of our path, making our physical and spiritual life difficult?

Two verses from Jesus set the scene

First, Jesus taught, “My kingdom is not of this world.”

We should understand this teaching to indicate that God is not in this world. God is not trying to fix our lives or the material and physical world.

God is not going to hold the world together before it comes apart.

In “this world, “we are on our own.

Second, Jesus also taught, “The kingdom of God is within you.”

We should understand this teaching as a declaration that there is within all humans a spiritual element — the Soul — in the “image and likeness” of God.

So, God is indirectly in this world, but only through us. And God is not imposing Itself.

It’s all up to each one of us according to how we open ourselves to the Divine within or not.

Our choice!

That’s the spiritual truth.

How is the spiritual truth received?

Some people have no awareness of this spiritual truth. Others have no interest in any spiritual consideration.

Some people were raised in a religious tradition, but it was imposed and not well received, and consequently abandoned.

Others, even if they had unanswered questions and concerns, were given to press on to incorporate some religious awareness and participation in their lives.

However, few believers understand the spiritual truth: they were given spiritual knowledge and resources but must embrace the spiritual Presence within them to make it a participant in their lives.

Our spiritual role

We have to take charge of our lives by allowing the divine Spirit indwelling us to not only direct our lives but also become a healing force in the world through each one of us.

As the divine Spirit within is individually recognized and embraced, it becomes active in our lives to the extent we are open to It.

While the Spirit knows we have material and physical needs, the focus is on our spiritual evolution first.

This does not mean that everything immediately turns peachy.

According to our receptivity, we progress in rising in consciousness. And the world gets better the more of us rise in consciousness.

The obstacle

The obstacle is our ego expressing itself through fear and greed.

We fear lacking not only the necessities of life but also love, friendship, success, self-esteem, and more. When this is not the case, greed drives the passion for accumulating power and treasure.

Both fear and greed are focused on the material and physical to the detriment of the spiritual. The Bible refers to this as “sowing to the flesh” — meaning the material and physical — instead of “sowing to the Spirit.”

That focus on the material does not allow us to cultivate the God-given spiritual resources within each one of us.

The common outcome

It is easy to be so side-tracked by the material world — “this world.”

We act as if we are unaware of the spiritual truth about who and what we really are. We make no concerted effort to connect with our spiritual side.

That situation is akin to the beggar who is ignorant of the fact he/she is the beneficiary of a significant inheritance.

The spiritual way

Since the kingdom of God is already within us — and that means God since God is in Its realm — we need to embrace this spiritual reality above all other considerations.

Jesus also said, “It is God’s good pleasure to give us the kingdom.” So what are we waiting for?

We must understand that what Jesus is talking about takes place in our consciousness. Therefore, we need to turn within to access our consciousness.

That is the function of spiritual meditation.

We want to experience a feeling that informs us of the Presence of the divine Spirit. There must be a Spirit-to-Spirit contact — individualized Spirit in the presence of divine Spirit. Not as two entities but in Oneness.

“That contact opens the door to the Grace of God. It becomes the agent of the blessings of God to meet our particular needs as individual human beings living in this world.

A “New Earth”

An authentic spiritual communion can open a way to bless others and sometimes the whole world.

The world would change if more people functioned from the Grace of God rather than from their materially hypnotized egos.

Peace and cooperation would prevail.

We would enter the age of a New Earth.
