Rap Life

If at any time over the past 30 years you’ve found yourself singing the phrase “hakuna matata”, you can thank Elton John and Tim Rice, writers of the timeless hymn that serves a cornerstone to Simba’s redemption arc in Disney's The Lion King. If you happen to find yourself singing those words at any point over the next couple of weeks, however, you might also have Gunna on the brain. The ATL MC’s album One of Wun has been making waves since its May release, and it's likely to continue doing so on the strength of songs like Gunna’s own take on “hakuna matata”. He doesn’t actually shout out Timon or Pumbaa on his, but if those guys are anywhere as chill as their version made them seem, they’d have no problem with Gunna adopting a “problem-free philosophy”. Hear “hakuna matata” on Rap Life, the playlist at the forefront of hip-hop culture today, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
