Fans of classic cartoons might have a new favorite channel: MeTV Toons — a new TV network dedicated to animated favorites like Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry and more — will debut this summer, TVLine has learned.
The new channel from MeTV parent company Weigel Broadcasting Co., which will be available on over-the-air broadcast television as well as ad-supporting streaming services, will air beloved Warner Bros. Discovery cartoons like Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo, Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Popeye and more, along with Rocky and Bullwinkle, Woody Woodpecker, Casper, Betty Boop, Speed Racer and others. MeTV Toons will officially launch on Tuesday, June 25.
”We are honored to work with the amazing team at Warner Bros. Discovery and others on this network and bring together a truly incredible collection of the world’s best known and most loved classic cartoons, creating a new destination for everyone to discover or rediscover the sheer joy of watching cartoons on TV,” Weigel Broadcasting Co. vice-chairman Neal Sabin said in a statement. “MeTV Toons will be dedicated 24/7 to showcasing the biggest names and most beloved classic cartoons and animated characters. Everyone has a favorite cartoon; it is a universally loved art form. We are thrilled to bring those smiles and memories back to TV with MeTV Toons.”

Grew up with a lot of those. Getting up early on Saturday mornings was a weekly thing. Better times.
I loved my Saturday mornings. It was the only day of the week that I wanted to get up early.
Don’t forget the cereal. 😁
Exactly what Boomerang was 20 years ago. Every retro station (cable or OTA) eventually loses its way veering into the ’90s or newer & then staying there. To me, anything 1990 or newer isn’t true retro. I hope MeTV Toons doesn’t start adding wrong-sounding LT & Scooby-Doo. Canada had an awesome channnel called Teletoon Retro.
Yeah and now Teletoon is gone…..frankly I think Boomerang Canada can do a little better with their lineup (like air the pre global response team era of the Rescue Heroes)
The “problem” with this content is that folks will watch it a lot for the first 5ish years. Over that time, it will start out nice, and go up a little for the first 2-3 years. After those first 3ish year, it will start to decline, a little bit. By year 6+, ratings will fall off a cliff. Because we’ll have watched everything, several times. I love Friends. I work from home, so I could watch the TBS reruns constantly. For a while, I did. I haven’t watched a Friends rerun in years.
.
It’ll happen to this toon channel as well.
It’s all perspective. The 90s were 25-35 years ago. When WCBS-FM started its “oldies” format in 1972, they focused on songs from 1955-1964, less than 20 years in the past. (They play primarily 80s-90s music now.)
This.
.
It’s been in the past couple of years that Sirius has eliminated the channel “40s on 4” (music from the 1940s) A few people wondered why, and it just boils down to the fact that music is something you come of age to.
.
And a lot of the people that came of age to 1940s music are gone now.
.
As for 80s and 90s music? Your music is officially retro when it’s playing overhead in a Kroger.
.
TV is much the same.
SiriusXM’s 40’s channel was not eliminated, it was rebranded and moved to a different channel. 40’s Junction is on channel 71, I listen to it all the time.
I’ve heard some pretty recent music (think 2-3 years old) playing in Kroger, especially indie and alternative music. Is that considered retro?
I loved Teletoon Retro – I’d leave it on that channel all day as I worked from home – Alvin & the Chipmunks, Smurfs, Inspector Gadget and Beetlejuice. The Boomerang channel here is terrible….i want the classic Scooby Doo and Looney Tunes, not the latest iterations. Any word if this new channel will come to Canada? I highly doubt it.
Ever wonder what idiot would down vote an innocuous comment like this?
I don’t agree. Media newer than 1990 is retro.
TIL cartoons from 30+ years ago isn’t retro.
I just started watching old Rocky and Bullwinkle episodes on YouTube because episodes of the show are no longer available for streaming! As a huge animation fan, this is huge news, especially for people who long for the old Boomerang format!
On XumoPlay they just added an Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends channel! Been watching since they added it at the beginning of the month.
There’s still space left for more broadcast channels? How many digital subdivisions can there be on any singe frequency? And there’s fewer of them after the repacking.
I love this! My DVR is going to be so full! But I also hope others follow suit…let’s get a Disney subchanmel! Maybe they can air shows like Aladdin and House of Mouse that have been too difficult to move to streaming. Plus shows like TailSpin, Rescue Rangers, Gargoyles and the FOX/Marvel tunes they have like original X-Men and Spider-Man.
The original Muppet Babies is another show I should have mentioned. There are a lot of copyright things with the content that have made it hard for them to put elsewhere, so a channel like this would be great for showing them!
Also please note I mean an additional channel – I’m also very excited for this one! Love a lot of the WB, Hanna-Barbera, and other classics they are advertising! There is a MeTV Toons page up on Facebook that has a promo and some images of what shows to expect at the start. There are a few like Freakazoid, 2 Stupid Dogs, Beetlejuice and the Mask cartoon that I wasn’t expecting to see in the mix. Top Cat, Smurfs, Underdog, Pink Panther, Inspector Gadget, Captain Planet, and Jonny Quest are also there.
I may have been mistaken about Pink Panther, though those cartoons have aired on MeTV proper in the past. Just in too much of a hurry but it was Snagglepuss. However, I also realized there are even more glimpses on the website that includes the Abbott & Costello cartoon, Police Academy toon, Gobots, Silverhawks, Breezly & Sneezy, Kwicky Koala, Marine Boy, Captain Caveman, Dynomutt, Xiaolin Showdown, Krypto the Superdog, Atom Ant, Baby Looney Tunes, and a Scooby pic with Scrappy. And Droopy I mentioned but is seen both in classic and Master Detective forms.
I want to watch The Arabian Knights, Wacky Races, precious Pupp, Yacky Doodle, Mr Jinx and Pixie and Dixie and others not mentioned
Wacky Races is mentioned at the end of their promo video online! I’m not sure about the others, though Huckleberry Hound, Secret Squirrel, Touche Turtle and Magilla Gorilla get mentions, and it does end with “and many more classic cartoons!” So here’s hoping!
I wonder if you already get MeTV you’ll get this channel as well.
It will be a broadcast channel or subchannel. So it depends where you live if a local broadcast channel or subchannel decides to carry it.
Will this be a 3rd ME TV channel or will this be replacing ME TV+ ? Will the cartoons be removed from the original ME TV
I never knew METV+ existed until i just recently got the streaming Frndly app where I noticed METV+ for the first time. Hopefully, we’ll get METV Toons on the Frndly app as well.
According to the press release from MeTV parent company Weigel Broadcasting.
” The MeTV toons network joins MeTV, Heroes & Icons, Start TV, Catchy Comedy ( fka Decades), MOVIES!, Story Television, Dabl, and Me TV + in the Weigel family of national broadcast networks.”
Will verizon fios carry this channel
Or will it be streaming channel on roku
Count me in :-)
That’s great any idea what areas states it will roll out to ?
Give me a two-hour block of Looney Tunes daily, and I’ll be happy.
YES I WILL TOON IN
Can’t wait!
I wonder if the Looney Toons will be edited or original?
YES!!!!!!!
Its about time. I grew up on those Cartoons. Along with Superfriends and others. I’d love to introduce my grandkids to my childhood and this should help.
Grew up with all those cartoons will definitely watch
Unnecessary – METV could, should, take their programs, that of Heroes and Icons, Catchy Comedy, Movies, plus this, and just create one great, diverse channel with rotating classics after they have played through.
Unfortunately, METV, and possibly the others (I do not watch them except Movies on occasion) edits their shows for time to promote the very shows they are editing.
We need a dedicated cartoon channel again. Hell, I miss Saturday Mornings. Now just make it available on a streaming service I’m already paying for.
@Patrick Then they’ll just have to cram a LOT of stuff in there. I’m sure there’s still plenty of cartoons out there we haven’t even SEEN. And besides, who’s ever gone throgh life watching a cartoon only ONCE?
Love it!!! Hopefully it’ll be available on my system. I grew up watching many of these shows.
will xfinity carry this channel ?
Would you show the Pink Panther and WoodyWood Pecker???
Woody Woodpecker has been advertised as being included with this, and also currently airs on MeTV proper on Saturday mornings (not sure if that will change with the new station). Pink Panther had aired on MeTV in the past in a similar fashion so is possible, but I have not seen him advertised yet.
I would give it a try for the Bugs Bunny toons, if they are the sanitized versions with the cartoon violence removed it will be a definite delete
Considering they have to meet today’s standards of broadcasting, which are different than they were in 1972…
I would amend the standards and repeal the Children’s Television act of 1990, as well as related legislation, as it was built upon a lot of fraud.
All of the Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes shorts have been remastered in HD and closed captioned Nearly all of them have aired unedited on MeTV ( Toon In With Me ) and Me TV + ( Sunday Night Cartoons.
Hell yes.
