The X-Men '97 finale featured some huge Marvel Universe cameos, including Black Panther. However, we'd later discover that T'Chaka was beneath the mask, not T'Challa.
The decision has perplexed viewers, particularly when T'Challa's father is typically portrayed as the former Black Panther who fought alongside Captain America in World War II. T'Challa being sidelined has spawned many fan theories, with most convinced the decision must be related to Chadwick Boseman's death.
Following the actor's tragic passing, Marvel Studios chose not to recast his Black Panther. Instead, the hero died off-screen in the MCU, and 2022's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ended with the reveal that he has a son, also called T'Challa.
In an interview with Phase Zero (via Toonado.com), X-Men '97 supervising director Jake Castorena was asked if there was a reason T'Chaka was depicted as Black Panther after the short-lived Fantastic Four: The Animated Series featured the...

As Marvel fans eagerly await the next installment in the Black Panther franchise, the legacy of T’Challa, as portrayed by the late Chadwick Boseman, continues to resonate with audiences. One scene in particular, from Captain America: Civil War, highlights T’Challa’s skills and competence as the Black Panther, leaving fans with chills and a desire to see him back in action.
Naturally, that raises the question: who should turn into the next Black Panther?
Is it T’Challa’s ex-lover and accomplished Wakandan spy, Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o)? Maybe it was T’Challa’s closest confidant, Okoye (Danai Gurira). Well, it seems the sister of T’Challa, Princess Shuri (Letitia Wright), is the only truly apparent contender for the throne, for now.

Known for his phenomenal performances as Ambrose Spellman in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and as Andre Anderson in The Boys spin-off, the late actor was believed to be heading to Toronto for the first table read of Gen V season 2 when the accident happened.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already May 2024, especially on the TV front. We have standing weekly appointments with “The Sympathizer” and “Under the Bridge,” are still reeling from “Baby Reindeer,” and still can’t get enough of Kristen Wiig in “Palm Royale” — but there’s a whole new crop of May shows about to debut that deserve the audience’s dutiful attention.
May brings some big names back to TV, including Sean Bean with Hulu’s “Shardlake,” Jeff Daniels with Netflix’s “Man in Full,” and Benedict Cumberbatch with “Eric.” Joel Edgerton headlines Apple’s twisted thriller about a man unmoored from reality in “Dark Matter,” while André Holland plays Black Panther party founder Huey P. At the turn of the millennium, humanity was brought face-to-face with the world of the apes, beginning with the Planet of the Apes. The Mark Wahlberg starrer created waves back in 2001, laying down the foundation for a franchise that would never turn back. Even more than two decades down the lane, fans still continue to love the story. And a big testament to this is the hype around the upcoming entry in the series, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. There will be one notable absence though – the absence of Andy Serkis.

The moment that it started to seem possible that Bob Iger could lose the battle to keep dissident shareholder Nelson Peltz off the Disney board was on March 21, when leading proxy advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services announced its support for the activist investor. Days later, the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) took it a step further, saying it was voting its shares not only for Peltz but for his associate, former Disney CFO Jay Rasulo. Now that it’s over, it’s fair to ask: What were they thinking?

Hanson and co-writer Brian Helgeland even shared the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for it. Also, the $126.2 million flick received rave reviews from critics as well as audiences, and fans were excited about a potential sequel.

We all know that Wolverine is one of the more resilient mutants in Marvel Comics as well as the X-Men franchise. With retractable Adamantium claws and a healing factor to repair his wounds, Wolverine is nearly an indestructible killing machine.
However, one small change in Wolverine’s origin arc could have given the mutant an upgrade from his Adamantium style. This minor change would have given Wolverine a new metal that would have literally made him the strongest X-Men in the comics!

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" to follow.
Storm, mistress of the elements ... no more? In episode 2 of "X-Men '97" — "Mutant Liberation Begins" — Storm/Ororo Monroe (still voiced by Alison Sealy-Smith) took a shot from a gun fired by the villainous X-Cutioner, an assassin affiliated with the anti-mutant hate group the Friends of Humanity. The shot, intended for Magneto, robbed Storm of her weather-manipulating powers: "The breeze is gone ... I cannot feel it, nor the moisture, nor the air," she despairs before the tears finally swell up. It's a sign of Magneto's growth of character that he stays his hand of X-Cution after Storm's fate.
According to Beast, the gun fired the same radiation used by the collars that inhibit mutant powers. However, the blast is concentrated to deliver its dosage on a cellular level, so the depower is permanent. Storm, feeling she doesn't belong with the X-Men anymore and unable to say goodbye in person,...

With the night of The Oscars now in the fast lane, people are excited to see who will take the world of cinema by storm and emerge as the winner of the most illustrious recognition in the film industry. Welcome to Oscar Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Oscar race — via Slack, of course. This week, on the eve of Sunday’s Oscars, we debate the closest categories and ponder last-second changes.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! We’ve reached the end of the long road. The Oscars are Sunday night, and there are still a handful of categories that vex me. I’m terribly vexed. Hollywood’s biggest night (that isn’t the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards) is coming up, with the 96th Academy Awards taking place this Sunday, March 10. Of course, many Oscar-nominated filmmakers began their careers in independent film. So! With the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the world saw the film saying farewell to Chadwick Boseman with honor and love for his legacy, portraying the titular superhero in the MCU.
With his tragic and sudden passing before the production of the aforementioned film began, Marvel Studios had to come up with a different story to explain the absence of the protagonist from the project.

This was the main reason why the original plan that filmmaker Ryan Coogler had for this film could not come to fruition as an alternate narrative was formulated for it. But when it comes to it, the director revealed that his initial vision for the project might’ve been just as impactful considering we would’ve seen T’challa in grief in front of our eyes for the time he lost during The Blip.

Denzel Washington is one of the most prolific actors who changed the way African American characters were portrayed in mainstream cinema. The actor has starred in landmark films such as Training Day, Glory, Philadelphia, Malcolm X, and Cry Freedom. He has also been nominated for the Oscars multiple times and has won the award twice.
Washington was reportedly always interested in playing Black Panther in a film adaptation. While the actor became too old to play the iconic superhero by the time the character made his cinematic debut with Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal, Washington reportedly had his eyes on another superhero. Denzel Washington once mentioned how he wanted to play Green Lantern.

The Oscar for Best Original Score has been awarded to some of the most memorable pieces of film music of all time, from “Star Wars” to “La La Land.” Many awards are considered precursors to the Oscars, so you would think the Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media would be pretty accurate, right? After all, there’s surely overlap between the Recording Academy and the music branch of the motion picture academy. And musicians would naturally be more aligned with what other musicians think than with groups of journalists like the Golden Globes Association or Critics Choice Association.
The two awards bodies have overlapped a lot over the years, but they are not afraid to differ. Since 2000 Oscar-winning scores for films like “Babel,” “The Artist,” “Life of Pi” and “The Hateful Eight” have lost the Grammy, sometimes to scores they beat at the Oscars. Mario Van Peebles made a big mark on cinema following in his father’s footsteps, Melvin Van Peebles, to be a unique, prominent voice for the African-American community in cinema. He would make many appearances as an actor, including working with fellow gunslinger Clint Eastwood on Heartbreak Ridge, as the sword-wielding Kane in Highlander: The Final Dimension, and taking on the monumental task of portraying Malcolm X in the Michael Mann film, Ali. “This is an unusual sighting,” whispers Faith Musembi, a producer and director on a new seven-part docuseries Queens, narrated by Black Panther’s Angela Bassett. We’re in a safari truck with our binoculars trained on 50 elephants on Tanzania’s Serengeti plain, one of the locations TV Guide Magazine visited with the filmmakers last year. In many parts of Africa, these mammals, often called “ellies,” disperse in small groups most of the year to find food, led by their herd’s matriarch. Following the less-than-stellar films from the 2010s, Rick Riordon’s beloved Percy Jackson book franchise will see new life on Disney+. The live-action Percy Jackson and the Olympians series will debut the first two of its eight-episode freshman season this Wednesday, Dec. 20.
The forthcoming installment, which follows the events of The Lightning Thief — the first book of the series — will feature several key changes, including the handling of the titular hero’s wretched stepfather Gabe, played in 2010’s Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Joe Pantoliano. The Might Ducks: Game Changers alum Timm Sharp will portray him in the Disney+ series.
