Netflix Is Licensing Fewer Films — Study

Tony Maglio

Executive Editor, Business

Tony is IndieWire’s Executive Editor of News. He was hired in 2022 as the PMC brand’s first-ever Executive Editor of Business coverage; in 2024, Business coverage was merged with News, expanding Tony’s oversight. Not that it makes him fit in any better here. IndieWire readers and writers like “Memoria,” “Holy Motors,” and Claire Denis movies; Tony likes “Blow,” “Road House,” and “The Transporter.” Send tips to our Tips inbox, but if you want to talk “Reacher,” reach out directly to Tony. Though coming from the world of television, Tony sometimes writes about movies too. Here’s a piece on the original “House Party” battle rap that no one read. Tony is the former TV Editor of Hollywood trade publication The Wrap, where he worked his way up from intern to reporter to senior reporter to eventually manager of a team of five. There, he covered content as much as business topics. You won’t forget a Tony Maglio interview, but that’s because he mostly just talks about himself the whole time. In another life — his 20s — Tony was in accounting and finance. Simultaneously he freelanced for “Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update,” the Seth Meyers seasons. Ask him about his joke from the Jason Segel episode. Tony holds two master’s degrees, the first a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Monmouth University and the second a Master of Science in Journalism from The Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Not bad. Tony has two daughters and does not put their pictures on social media. His wife does. Tony had two cats; one died, and it was sad. Go Giants (football, obviously).
