I studied artificial intelligence at Institute for New Generation Computer Technology, Japan, as a researcher from 1985 to 1990. From 1990 to 2003, I was a researcher at Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Panasonic Corporation), Japan. My major concern in these periods was in hybrid connectionist symbolic models of cognition. From 1996 to 1998, I headed a joint research project on multi-strategy learning and emergent computation in realistic applications funded by the Information-Technology Promotion Agency, Japan. I joined Kyoto Institute of Technology as a professor in 2003, and moved to Miyazaki Sangyo-Keiei University in 2022. My current research interest is in cognitive development, especially in realizing a system that acquires language through natural daily interaction. My classes include Introduction to Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence.
