Netflix has greenlit a family drama series titled “The Waterfront” written by Kevin Williamson.
Per the official logline, the series is inspired by true events and “dives into the flawed Buckley family as their attempts to retain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire drive them to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves afloat.”
“The Waterfront” is being produced by Universal Television, and was announced to be in development earlier this year when Williamson entered an overall deal at the studio. He and Ben Fast serve as executive producers via Williamsons’s Outerbanks Entertainment banner.
Williamson is a veteran film and TV writer.

Serena Williams will be the host of the 2024 Espy Awards.
ESPN announced the pick of the tennis legend as this year’s Espys host during Disney’s upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday, with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest breaking the news on stage. The event will be held July 11.
The Espy Awards are ESPN’s annual awards show celebrating the best of sports. Last year Patrick Mahomes and LeBron James were among the big winners, and for the first time the program went without a host (due in part to the ongoing Writers Guild strike).
Williams, of course, retired from professional tennis nearly two years ago.
That being said, she has kept busy, with media being one of her top priorities. Williams inked a two-book deal with Random House Publishing last year, beginning with an “intimate” memoir.

Master Debaters?
With the 2024 presidential election to determine whether 51 percent of Americans think America should continue as a democracy a mere six months away, it was inevitable that the political discourse would turn to the debates. That, even though one candidate is currently being tried on felony charges that he engaged in business crimes to defraud the last electorate and might be in prison. Yes, President Joe Biden even issued the invitation to Donald Trump in the most Dark Brandon manner possible, challenging his rival to a Wednesday debate because he knows Trump’s trial takes that day off. As Stephen Colbert noted in a specially constructed “Damn Cam” reaction shot, “Damnnnn.”

The NFL’s annual schedule release, which features enticing playoff rematches, made waves with the announcement that its Christmas Day doubleheader will be streamed live on Netflix, marking the company’s biggest foray into live sports.

In charge of Liberty’s kids and teachers is Principal Crystal (Tatyana Ali) who was introduced earlier this season as Ava’s (Janelle James) frenemy and former sorority sister. When Ava realizes that the tensions her faculty complained about during the field trip are related to Crystal, she spearheads a competitive relay race on the playground where the dueling school teachers could participate for a chance to win the park to themselves for the rest of the afternoon. Coming into the sixth night of Jeopardy! Masters Season 2, there were a couple of foregone conclusions: Victoria Groce (with 13 match points) and Yogesh Raut (with 10) were already qualified to play in the semifinals; unless James Holzhauer (who had 6) got shut out again, he was likely to advance as well; it was bound to be a close contest between Amy Schneider and Mattea Roach (also 5) for that fourth spot; and Matt Amodio (with just 1 single match point) had zero chance of playing past Wednesday night’s games. So how did the sextet of champions fare in the final night of Masters games? Here’s a look at the highlights. Game Eleven Raut, Holzhauer, and Amodio were matched up for their final “regular” game of this season, but, as mentioned above, the latter was necessarily going to come in sixth (still taking home a healthy $50k prize for his troubles), and Holzhauer...

With Bridgerton Season 3 ready to take the ballroom, you might be looking to revisit the Regency-era romance. Specifically Season 2, which aired in March 2022 and unlocks the love story of Viscount Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Miss Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
Over eight episodes, viewers witnessed the enemies-to-lovers journey of Anthony, a determined aristocrat, and Kate, the headstrong and loving sister of Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran). Although Anthony initially proposes to Edwina, it’s Kate he longs for.
As Anthony and Kate come to realize their undeniable connection, the rest of the Bridgerton family finds themselves in scandals and flirtations. Benedict (Luke Thompson) plays with the idea of art school. Colin (Luke Newton) returns from his travels abroad hungry for a purpose — and finds one by ousting the scheming Jack Featherington (Rupert Young) from the ton. Uh-oh, the new Da may be in some serious trouble in the Law & Order Season 23 finale. The NBC drama wraps its current season on May 16 with “In Harm’s Way,” in which a sports star is killed, but Shaw (Mehcad Brooks) and Riley (Reid Scott) suspect the shooter missed their intended target. In fact, in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek, Dixon tells Baxter (Tony Goldwyn)—the shooting happened in front of him and his family—that he was the intended victim. “We had a trajectory analyst review the video of the shooting, and it’s clear he was aiming for you. If you hadn’t moved when you did, that bullet would’ve struck you squarely in the back of the head,” Dixon explains. There’s a citywide manhunt to track the shooter down. Baxter’s wife (Tara Westwood) thinks that Baxter should suspend his campaign for District Attorney.

Is Reba McEntire running a little behind Bob Hope, as an awards-show-hosting perennial… or actually a little bit ahead? It depends how you count. Because this year marks her 17th year hosting the Academy of Country Music Awards, aka the ACMs, and Hope did the Oscars 19 times, so she’s still two years from matching his record, if we compare these gigs.
However, McEntire has also hosted a rival program, the CMA Awards, five times over the years. So if we include all the times that McEntire has hosted one country awards program or another, she’s actually up to...

With 11 feature films, six live-action series, nine animated series — and, lest we forget, one holiday special — the original “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope” is starting to feel like it was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. “Ahsoka” occupies an interesting spot at the nexus of “Star Wars” storytelling from the past couple decades, though.
The Disney+ series acts as a bridge between the worlds of Dave Filoni’s work on the excellent animated “Rebels” and the innovative technical approach to “The Mandalorian.” Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), former apprentice to Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), may have the challenge of trying to preserve the galaxy in the face of sinister threats from Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) and others, but “Ahsoka” has the challenge of blending templates set in animation with the demands of live-action — and pushing both forward, as the show takes Ahsoka and the...

If this week’s promo is any indication, Jake Gyllenhaal is ready to take viewers on a strange trip when he returns for his third Saturday Night Live hosting gig.
The just-released clip shows Gyllenhaal rehearsing his lines for this weekend’s season finale alone in Studio 8H when he’s approached by Marcello Hernandez, who asks him to sign his SNL 2024 yearbook. Gyllenhaal obliges, but apparently takes his time finding the perfect words as a montage shows him cycling through tears, anger, epiphany, and eventual relief.
“Enjoy, papi,” Jake says as he returns the yearbook to Hernandez, who is asleep by this point.
The already off-the-wall promo ends by doubling down on the absurd, revealing the message Gyllenhaal just labored over. “B kewl!,” it reads, signed by “Jack.”
“You didn’t even spell your name right,” Hernandez shouts after Gyllenhaal as he walks away.
