What’s changing Last year we announced the beta of G Suite Add-ons, a new cross-suite platform that connects G Suite to your favorite workplace apps. Beginning today, G Suite Add-ons will begin rolling out to all users.

With G Suite Add-ons, workflows that require third-party applications can be executed inside G Suite, allowing users and teams to use the applications they want without leaving G Suite. For example, you can install the Workfront add-on for quick access across Calendar, Gmail, and Google Drive.

Why it’s important
G Suite Add-ons connect G Suite with third-party applications so you can work directly from the G Suite app you’re using, rather than toggling from one app to another. They also surface relevant information and suggest actions based on what you’re working on.

Add-ons from SignEasy, WebEx, Workfront, Lucidchart and more will be available once this feature has fully rolled out and can be installed from the G Suite Marketplace

Organizations can also build their own add-ons using Apps Script. Note that the developer feature will be fully available in early February — we’ll provide an update here once it’s fully rolled out.

Additional Details
G Suite Add-ons will work across G Suite products, allowing developers to create a single add-on that works across G Suite, rather than building a separate add-on for each application within G Suite.

G Suite Add-ons are currently accessible in Calendar, Gmail, and Google Drive, with support for other G Suite products coming later this year.

Getting started
  • Admins: This feature will be available by default. If you allow users to install only whitelisted applications from the G Suite Marketplace, you can specify those apps within the Admin console. Or, you can install chosen G Suite Add-ons for your entire domain via the listing in the G Suite Marketplace.
  • End users: This feature will be available by default. You’ll be able to install G Suite Add-ons using the “+” button in the G Suite quick access side panel. The add-ons you install will appear in the side panel across G Suite apps.

What’s changing We're making it easy for admins to enable single sign-on for thousands of additional apps that don’t support modern authentication standards like SAML and OIDC. The combination of standards based and password-vaulted app support will deliver one of the largest SSO app catalogs in the industry.

Who’s impacted Admins and end users

Why you’d use it Google supports single sign-on for apps in the G Suite Marketplace, apps that support SAML or OIDC as an authentication mechanism, and apps that leverage LDAP for sign-on. While this existing solution works for many apps, some of our customers rely on apps that don’t support these standards. others don’t support federated single sign-on. This release provides seamless one-click access for users and a single point of management, visibility, and control for admins.

With password vaulting, admins can:

  • Manage credentials in a single space,
  • Securely enable access to shared credentials,
  • Manage access to app credentials based on group membership, and
  • Log and access reports on usage of the credentials within their organization.

End users can view and login to their apps with a single click within a new user dashboard.

Update (October 14, 2019): We previously stated that the Goal Seek add-on would impact the API request quota for your domain — this was incorrect. There will be no impact on API request quotas from using the Goal Seek add-on and we've updated the blog to reflect this correction.

What’s changingThe Goal Seek add-on for Google Sheets can now be downloaded and installed from the G Suite Marketplace.

Why you’d use it
You can use the Goal Seek add-on to calculate the required value of a cell to achieve a desired value in another cell. This is particularly useful when conducting break-even analysis or sensitivity calculations, like determining how changing one value affects other correlated values in your sheet.

What’s changingIn the coming weeks, we’ll move all Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms add-ons and Google Drive apps from the Chrome Web Store to the G Suite Marketplace. See our Cloud Blog for more details on this change. If an add-on’s developer hasn’t taken action to migrate their listing, new users won’t be able to install it. We’re calling these add-ons “unmigrated add-ons.”

Who’s impactedAdmins and end users

Why it mattersExisting users of unmigrated add-ons will continue to be able to use them. However, if they uninstall Editors add-ons or Drive apps, they won’t be able to reinstall them. Moreover, if an existing user creates a template with one of these add-ons, any users who don’t already have the add-on installed won’t be able to use the add-on within the template.

How to get started
  • Admins and end users: No action is required. To check whether an add-on has been migrated, search for it in the G Suite Marketplace
  • Developers: Drive apps and Editor Add-ons must have a G Suite Marketplace listing prior to September 9, 2019. For more information on how to migrate your add-ons, see here for Drive developers and here for Editors developers.

What’s changing We’re starting the G Suite Marketplace (GSM) security assessment program, which will enable developers to optionally submit their GSM apps for review by a third-party security firm. The assessment includes penetration tests, a deployment review, and a policy and procedure review. Apps that pass the security assessment will display a security badge on their Marketplace listing.

You may notice:

  • A “Security Assessment’ badge on marketplace listings.
  • A “Security Assessment” badge on app detail pages.
  • A “Security Assessment” section on the app detail page.

We’re opening the program for developer submissions now. Monitor the G Suite Updates blog for ongoing updates on the program. Find out more about the security assessment program here.

Who’s impacted Admins and end users

Why you’d use it By highlighting apps that have been assessed to meet certain security standards, we hope it will be easier for you to find apps that may meet your specific organizational policies. This means you can more quickly identify and assess apps that you can whitelist for your users to help them be productive.

How to get started
  • Admins: Find out more about the program and what to look for here.
  • End users: No action needed

What’s changingWe’re announcing G Suite Add-ons, a new cross-suite platform that connects G Suite to your favorite workplace apps, in a beta program.

Last year we announced a new feature that gives users quick access to Calendar, Hangouts, and Keep from an embedded side panel in G Suite. Today we’re announcing that the side panel is now open for third-party developers.
Who’s impactedAdmins and end users
Why you’d use itAdd-ons help you complete tasks directly from the G Suite app you're using, rather than needing to toggle from one app to another.

G Suite Add-ons also surface relevant information and suggest actions based on what you’re working on. For example, a salesperson can find customer info from their CRM tool while drafting a strategy in Docs, an engineer can add tasks to their project management app directly from Gmail, and a recruiter can consult their hiring pipeline while scheduling interviews in Calendar. Once enrolled in the beta, users in the domain will have access to new add-ons from Copper, Box, Workfront, Asana, Evernote, and Cisco, among others.

How to get started
  • Admins: Express interest in the G Suite Add-ons beta. Once your organization joins the beta program, you can also install chosen G Suite Add-ons for your entire domain via the G Suite Marketplace.
  • End users: Once your organization is in the beta program, you’ll be able to install G Suite Add-ons from the “+” button in the G Suite quick access side panel. The G Suite Add-ons you install will appear in the side panel across G Suite apps and help you complete entire workflows without the need to switch back and forth between multiple apps.

For six years, the Google Apps Marketplace has helped businesses do more by being the number one source to find third-party apps and integrations that extend what's possible with Google Apps. But with hundreds of popular apps to choose from, it’s sometimes hard for customers to discover the newest and most innovative ones.

Enter New & Notable, a new section in the Google Apps Marketplace that surfaces the latest and best third-party apps and integrations for Google Apps, and the developers behind them.

Here’s a preview of some of the products highlighted this month:

  • Asana Dashboard: The new Asana Dashboard integrates with Google Sheets, allowing users to export task completion and performance information for wider tracking across teams. Read more here
  • Hubspot CRM: With the new HubSpot CRM app, users can now log emails sent from Gmail into HubSpot with one click, and automatically sync meetings between Google Calendar and HubSpot, no matter which system they came from. Read more here
  • Xero: With their latest integration, Xero — a provider of online accounting software for small businesses — lets users view Gmail messages alongside Xero transaction and activity details. Users can also save emails in Xero for reference, start a quote or invoice from within a Gmail message. Read more here
  • Zendesk: With their latest integration, Zendesk automates the Google Apps admin tasks of forwarding support e-mails into Zendesk and listing Google users within Zendesk. Read more here
  • Zoho People: Zoho People is a new HR management app for small businesses that lets users manage their HR portal directly from their Google Apps account, as well as add users directly to Zoho People, saving them from having to manually re-enter employee information. Read more here

Find these apps and many more (like AppSheet, GQueues, ZipBooks, Any.Do, Infogram, and LogoMix) in New & Notable. If you’re on the hunt for killer apps that help you get more done with Google Apps, it’s the best place to start.

The Google Apps Marketplace offers hundreds of quality enterprise apps that admins can install for their domains, enhancing their employees’ native Google for Work apps with additional functionality and features. We’re now making it easier for admins to determine the apps on the Google Apps Marketplace that work with Android for Work and that can be installed on their end users’ Android devices.

If you are logged in as an Apps for Work admin and visit the Google Apps Marketplace, you’ll now see an Available on Android for Work section that features a select number of apps and links directly to their Google Play for Work counterparts. This initial group of apps will also be easily identifiable via an Android icon in the Available on section of their public listings on the Marketplace.

If your organization has Android for Work enabled and you install one of these Available on Android for Work apps for your domain, you’ll be given the option to visit the Play for Work store, where you can approve the corresponding Android app and begin deploying it to your users. This will allow your employees to get started using native mobile apps more quickly and easily.

In conjunction with the changes described above, we’re also making it simpler to identify apps that work with Google Apps in the Play for Work store. Going forward, if you’re logged in as an Apps admin and visit the Play for Work store, select listings for apps that work with Google Apps will be marked Works with Google Apps and link to their Marketplace counterparts. If you have Android for Work enabled and approve one of those apps, you’ll be given the option to navigate directly to that counterpart on the Marketplace and install it for your domain.

In addition, much like on the Marketplace, the Play for Work store will now display a Works with Google Apps section on its homepage. This section will allow you to quickly identify those Play for Work apps that have a Marketplace counterpart.

Initially, only a small group of apps will be featured in these Available on Android for Work and Works with Google Apps sections, though we’re looking to add more apps in the future.

The right tools help organizations succeed. The Google Apps Marketplace makes it easy for admins and employees to find these tools by offering hundreds of third-party applications that integrate directly into Google Apps for Work. Today, we’re revealing a brand new site for the Google Apps Marketplace that makes this process even simpler. A new home page highlights the most popular apps, new arrivals, and more, while search functionality and the navigation bar make it easy for users to find the apps they need.

Check out the new site at apps.google.com/marketplace. A few things to keep in mind:

  • If you’ve disabled the installation of some or all third-party Marketplace apps for your employees (in the Admin console under Apps > Marketplace apps > Settings for Marketplace apps), they will not be able to install those applications from the new Marketplace.
  • End users can only see end-user apps in the Marketplace; admins can see both admin-specific and end-user apps in the Marketplace. If you want to access admin-specific apps, please be sure that you’re signed in with your Apps admin account .

More Information
Google Apps Marketplace

Last year we launched add-ons, tools created by developer partners that provide even more helpful features in your documents, spreadsheets and forms. Previously, the ability to install add-ons was controlled centrally by Google Apps admins in the Admin console, but users retained ultimate control of choosing which individual add-ons to install or remove.

Today we’re releasing a couple of updates to help developers share their add-ons with an even wider audience and give Google Apps admins more consistent control over which add-ons are used in their organizations.

Developers can now choose to make their add-ons for Docs, Sheets and Forms available for installation across entire domains, which automatically creates a Google Apps Marketplace listing that is easy for customers to find. Admins can then install these handy add-ons for their whole organization using just a couple of clicks.

Admins will continue to have a “disable add-ons” option for their users, but they can also whitelist add-ons via the Google Apps Marketplace for their entire domain or a specific team. Check out the Help Center for details on the available options.

Keep in mind that it will take some time for add-on developers to publish their apps for domain-wide installation, so you might not find all your favorite add-ons in the Apps Marketplace yet.

Note: this launch will not impact existing add-on installation settings.
