Quick launch summary

Last year, we announced the ability to add page breaks before paragraphs on web. Now, this function is available on mobile.

You can mark a paragraph to always begin on a new page with the new “Add page break before” option in Google Docs. This is particularly useful if you want certain paragraph styles to always create a new page such as titles, subtitles, or headings.

What’s changing
Admins can now upload, manage, and distribute private iOS applications to advanced managed devices.

In the Admin console, under Apps > web and mobile apps > Add app, you’ll now see the “Add Private iOS app” option, which will guide admins through uploading the app, populating information about the app, and configuring the OUs and groups they want the app to be distributed to.

In the Admin console, navigate to Apps > Web and Mobile apps and then select "Add App".

Once added, you can update, delete, and manage user access to the app.

Who’s impacted
Admins

Why you’d use it
Internally developed, private apps can be useful and relied on by users for a variety of reasons, such as increasing productivity or sharing company specific information, such as cafe menus or campus maps. By giving admins the ability to add and provision custom iOS applications through the Admin console, they can securely distribute their own in-house apps. They can also keep private apps updated easily, because when they upload a new version of the app it’s automatically updated on users’ devices.

For a recap of announcements in the past six months, check out What’s new in Google Workspace (recent releases).

What’s changing

Earlier this year, we announced a new admin setting which restricts data and content sharing between Google Workspace accounts and personal Google accounts in Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides on iOS. We’re now expanding this to include Google Chat. With data protection, users can only share or save content—such as files, emails, chat messages, or copied & pasted content—within Google Workspace accounts. This will protect users from sharing a Chat message with their personal Google accounts or saving data to their personal account.

Sharing to personal Chat account can be blocked by admins

Admins can turn off sharing from company to personal Chat accounts

Who’s impacted

Admins and end users

Why it’s important

Google applications on iOS support multi-user logins, allowing users to access Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Chat and Slides with their personal and Google Workspace accounts. Giving admins the ability to control how data is shared across user accounts helps minimize accidental data sharing. Together with the previously released copy and paste and drag and drop restrictions and protections against data sharing between Google Workspace and personal Google accounts, these measures expand data protection coverage and help increase the security of your corporate data on iOS.

What’s changing
We’re improving the Android and iOS experiences for Google Docs users with two new features. These were previously available on the web, and are now available on mobile as well:
  • Link previews, which help you get context from linked content without bouncing between apps and screens.
  • Smart Compose, which helps you write faster and with more confidence.

Read our Cloud Blog post to learn more about how these and other launches can help you collaborate from anywhere, with Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides on mobile

Who’s impacted
End users

Why it’s important
These launches build on other recent launches that improve the mobile user experience, including a new commenting interface in Docs on Android, dynamic email notifications for Gmail on mobile, and dark mode for Docs, Sheets, and Slides on Android

Together, these features will help make it easier and quicker not only to read and review content on mobile devices, but also to create and collaborate on content, wherever you are.

Additional details
Link previews
Linked content can enrich documents with useful information, but if clicking a link means opening another window, that can be distracting and disrupt your reading flow. Earlier this year, we launched link previews on the web. Now, we’re adding link previews to mobile as well. When you click on a link in Docs, dynamic information about the content will appear. This may include the title, description, and thumbnail images from public web pages, or the owner and latest activity for linked Drive files. This can help you decide whether to open linked content while staying in-context.
