We're always trying to make Gmail faster, so today we're introducing a redesigned compose experience in Gmail that saves you time, uses less screen space, and is simple to use. The new compose experience opens a window at the bottom of your inbox, just like a chat box. You can compose multiple messages at once, search through your inbox and even reply to other messages all while keeping your new draft open.

Previously available only on select Android devices like Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, you can now download the official Google Calendar app for Android from Google Play. Note that this app only works on devices running Android 4.0.3+ Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean.

If you're switching to Gmail from another email provider like Yahoo!, Hotmail, or AOL, Gmail has a handy tool to help you move over your old emails and contacts. This tool is now accessible to Google Apps users as well.

Users have had the ability to upload files to Google Drive by dragging-and-dropping them into the web interface since April 2011. They can now upload folders from their computer to Google Drive in the same way. Note that this feature is only available using the latest version of Google Chrome.

Google Apps Toolbox is a collection of troubleshooting tools available to Google Apps users. The following tools are currently part of the toolbox:

  • CheckMX analyzes the public DNS records of a domain to look for common MX record misconfigurations.
  • Messageheader analyzes email message headers to look for the cause of mail delivery delays.
